As 2013 came to a close the boxing world witnessed a classing in the all British encounter of Carl Froch vs George Groves. Froch put his WBA and IBF Super-Middleweight titles on the line and was floored in the first round and dominated until the ninth round, in which he came back strongly, stopping Groves in the Manchester Arena. Instantly everybody, but Froch himself, stated they wanted a rematch. This time it wasn't just Britain, the world had got involved. With heavy implications for the entire sport of boxing, the rematch has been set and today it was announced it will take place on 31 May 2014 at the historic Wembley Stadium.
The encounter is likely to set a British post-War attendance record, and smash previous box office records. It will set records in Britain, but will likely be one of the most watched British fights overseas, too. This will be the first boxing fight at the new Wembley Stadium, since it re-opened in 2007.
Froch previously told Sky Sports "It needs to be held at a big stadium because it is such a good fight. I want to beat him and put closure on this whole Carl Froch v George Groves saga. "It doesn't get any bigger than this for British boxing." Groves responded saying "The fight being at Wembley is brilliant news. I've never boxed anywhere close to the capacity of Wembley. To be crowned world champion in my home town of London will be an amazing feeling."
Can Groves become the new World Champion, or will Froch quiet him once and for all? One way or another, both stars' reputations are going to explode across the world after this fight.
