The World Cup is a few months away and the teams are entering the last stages of their preparation. The self proclaimed 'Home of Football' do not seem prepared at all. The Three Lions seemingly do not know their starting eleven, or their identity, so how can they win the World Cup? England faced Denmark in their final friendly before announcing their squad for Brazil, and it should have been an easier task, especially when considering Denmark will not be at the World Cup, meaning England could face 31 opponents considered 'tougher opponents'.
England tried and tried, and late on substitute Adam Lallana whipped in one of the games best crosses, which was headed in by Daniel Sturridge, leading England to their 1-0 victory. This was the last game in which players could earn their place at the World Cup whilst wearing an England shirt. There are Premier League games remaining, but England will not step on the field again until after the squad has been announced, so players were expected to put in a big performance. The previously mentioned Lallana and Sturridge certainly did, and Roy Hodgson would be foolish to leave them out of his squad.
Others that impressed were Chris Smalling, Raheem Sterling and the youngster Luke Shaw, who earned his first England appearance. It seems these three, a long with the previously mentioned stars, will indeed get a place to Brazil, barring a horrific spell of form in their remaining league games.
Do you think England have what it takes to win the World Cup? What players would be in your squad if you were Roy?
