Everyone is smitten, both young Jo and Alex and old Meredith and Derek. The only difference between the two is Jo and Alex are unmarried. This puts a damper on things because the hospital has put into effect a no-fraternization rule. This means all the married couples can flaunt their relationship in the single residents' faces and there is nothing they can do about it.
Richard is made the PDA Police, which is ironic because it was him who broke up Ellis and her husband.
The new rule pushes the residents apart, mainly away from Ben who is married to Bailey. There is one amongst them all that pushed for this rule to be put in place and Jo's hunt lands on Stephanie. Stephanie was left at the alter, granted it was April's wedding alter, by Avery and her face reads nothing but a bruised heart and deflated self-esteem.
Meanwhile, Callie surprises Arizona with a HUGE rock to represent their fresh start. Owen and Emma decide to move in together in a passionate confession of how much they love each other, though it may be too sudden. They decide to go along with it and make an appointment with a Realtor.
Meredith, alone with the children while Derek is supposed to interview with the President's staff, gets Christina drunk and the two vent about their significant others. Christina knows that Emma wants children and how great she would be for Owen. Derek comes back to the house early after his interview is cancelled. You can tell the cancellation brings McDreamy's spirits down, but hey he's still beautiful and a genius. No use crying over spilt milk.
Derek's return makes Christina, after nonchalantly admit her sadness from the possibility of losing Owen for good, make a drunken move: she visits him and the two reminisce about their past together. Obviously, this brings up some feelings and the two rekindle their love affair.
the next day, Emma brings up with Owen their appointment with the Realtor. She then gets future-tracked when the option "number of bedrooms" comes into play and she immediately brings up having children. She says she would like two kids maybe three, but alas he cheated already so no worries. By sleeping with his ex-wife who he still works with: he has already chosen. Owen would rather see his barren future with Christina than hope for a blossomed life with Emma.
Owen chooses a public place and breaks up with Emma, but she demands to know what changed. They WERE just talking about making a few babies to fill their imaginary house with. Owen cops out by saying that Emma wanted to give up surgery to raise children with him (something Christina would never do). He puts it on her, rather than him cheating on her.
At the end of the day, Leah admits it was actually her who submitted the complaint, but only after Jo throws that she and Alex saw Jackson and April in the supply closet (after Richard discovers them all). Surprise, they're married.
The bigger surprise is how much damage Arizona really did to Leah. Those were some deep wounds: Arizona was flirting with Leah after Callie left her, then Arizona and Leah were sleeping together, then Arizona thought Leah was getting to attached, then Arizona got comfortable with how attached Leah was, then Callie wanted Arizona back, and that was the end of Leah/Arizona.
Shortly after April and Jackson go public with their marriage when the two couples are brought into a meeting with the board of the hospital. Alex leaves Jo to handle the board on her own because he doesn't think it's a serious rule and the board can't control their lives.
On a lighter note: Derek, it turns out, was not asked for another interview because the President's team wanted him to be on the advisory board rather than be just involved in the trials. This is great news for Derek, but obviously takes time away from Meredith's career ambitions.
