Two episodes ago, How I Met Your Mother seemingly dropped the bombshell that The Mother (Cristin Milioti) is either dead or dying when Ted tells this epic story to his children in 2030. Many fans have held this theory for quite some time, but now Milioti herself has addressed the notion.

In a video interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress calls the theory "insane" and "crazy" but notes that it comes from the passionate HIMYM fans. The interesting note, though, is that she never flat out states that the theory is wrong. She also calls the series finale on March 31 "beautiful."

The interview also delves into her work on Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, and Milioti tells a story about how people have actually asked her if she's seen the movie and later come back to her once they realized she was actually in the film.

Here is a portion of my thoughts about the big reveal from my review of "Vesuvius":

"It's the moment when The Mother, in reference to Ted's story about Robin's mother showing up at the wedding, says that it's not much of a surprise because 'what kind of mother wouldn't be at her daughter's wedding.' And then Ted starts to cry. And then it hits you: holy crap, The Mother might actually be dead.

Now I hope, dear readers, that the show its just trolling us, that Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are aware of the fans' passion and the popular theory that The Mother's death is the reason for Ted's nine-year story to his children and that the co-creators decided to go this route just to throw everybody off the scent. But what if they're not? What if this is the endgame for HIMYM?

Consider what The Mother said to Ted earlier in the episode. She doesn't want him to be somebody who lives through his stories. She wants him to realize that life goes forward. Why else would she be saying these things unless she knew was not going to be about for much longer?

In a way, it would make sense. There has to be some reason behind Ted's telling the story, and the Mother's death would be the best and most obvious one. It would also explain why his kids are actually listening to this story instead of abandoning it halfway through like any other teenagers would."
