Olivia Wilde is known these days for her feature film roles, but the 30-year-old actress is set to make her return to television in a big way. It was announced this week that Wilde is set to star opposite Bobby Cannavale in a new HBO series from Martin Scorsese and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Described as a "sex-fueled" rock n' roll drama, we have high expectations for the yet-to-be-titled new drama.
HBO has a great relationship with Scorsese, who produces Boardwalk Empire, and its not a great idea to turn down anything from Mick Jagger, so this should be something to look forward to. The series isn't formally greenlit yet, but production is expected to start in the summer of 2014.
Deadline has the synopsis for the series:
Co-written by Winter and George Mastras ... the untitled drama is set in 1970s New York and explores the drug- and sex-fueled music business as punk and disco were breaking out, all through the eyes of record executive Richie Finestra (Cannavale) who is trying to resurrect his label and find the next new sound. Richie is undergoing a crisis of character when confronted with a life-altering decision. Wilde will play Richie's wife Devon Finestra, a former actress/model who lived a Bohemian life in 1960s New York. Richie's crisis causes strain on their family and propels her to re-immerse in her former lifestyle.
Wilde, who is very pregnant at the moment with her first child with fiancé Jason Sudeikis, is also set to star in and produce Meadowland, a psychological thriller about "a mom whose son disappears, a jolt that puts her on an unexpected and dangerous path toward acceptance as she seeks out a relationship with a neglected boy and watches it take an unexpected turn."
