Great news for fans of Key & Peele. The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that the show will be returning this October abet much larger and with a new animated series.
According to the Reporter, "Season four, technically announced in October, will consist of 22 episodes, including two best installments. That's the largest episode count so far for the series, with eight in season one, 10 in its sophomore run and 13 last year."
In other Key & Peel news, Comedy Central is partnering with the comedic duo to develop an animated spin-off series based on their popular Critiquer's Corner "Vandaveon & Mike" characters.
According to the Reporter, "The animated entry, which is in development, features the characters as 12-year-old hall monitors navigating their way through middle school. Rodney Barnes (Everybody Loves Raymond, Boondocks) is on board to exec produce alongside Joel Zadak, Allen Fischer and Brian Dobbins... " The "Vandaveon & Mike" characters were originally created, developed, and shown on YouTube by Key & Peele as a means of providing episode commentary for their own show.
Key & Peele boosts a large audience of nearly 2 million viewers per episode. The show was ranked first " among men 18-34 in its Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. slot and was in the top five among the key adults 18-49 metric," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Lastly, the show is not only a hit, but one of its biggest fans is President Obama. Online videos including "East/West College Bowl" and "Obama Loses His S**t" have generated more than 500 million total streams.
Either way, it looks like Key & Peele and their fans have a lot to look forward to over the upcoming months
