Reports and tweets of Australia's brilliant musician Gotye circulated yesterday. However, the report was proved to be a hoax.

The "Somebody That I Used to Know" singer became a victim of ridiculous death hoax on Sunday when an unknown user posted an article about the death of the singer

The rumors started on CNN iReport when a user posted the article. Reports immediately spread in Twiiter and various message boards.

The cause of death, according to the post, was suicide. It was claimed that Gotye shot himself in the head with a 9mm handgun.

The report also said that family and friends of Gotye confirmed that untimely death of the musician. He was allegedly quickly taken to the Central Montmorency Hospital, but died from his injuries shortly after. His family has stated that they plan a closed funeral.

There are evidences that the report was a hoax. The report is not reported by a legitimate and reliable Web site.

Also, when you search "Central Montmorency Hospital," the top results are a veterinary hospital in Melbourne, Australia. There is a Montmorency Medical Centre, but that appears to be a single-doctor practice, which is not where an emergency gunshot victim would be taken.

The post was taken down from the CNN iReport site. Gotye did not comment about the death hoax.

Multi-instrumentalist Gotye was the best-selling Australian artist with his single Somebody That I Used To Know, featuring Kimbra, finishing in second place and his album Making Mirrors coming in at No. 4. Gotye also dominated this year's APRA Music Awards.
