New England Patriots' Tom Brady has had many targets during his time as their quarterback, but recently it's clear that Julian Edelman has become a clear favourite, so the thought of losing him to another team, possibly a rival, was not a good one. Luckily for Brady and his team, they've kept their man, who announced he'd signed a new contract, although the terms were not revealed.
Edelman, who will be 28 in May, had a stunning season, in which he caught for 1,056 yards and six touchdowns, which was his career highs. Edelman was also a threat on punt returns, and all round was a valuable player for New England, and although the money he will receive is likely to be high, he has truly earned it, and the Patriots had to take this risk.
Shortly before the Super Bowl Edelman told ESPN radio "The main thing about this year was that I had four years under my belt and 'could I stay healthy?' I haven't been able to stay healthy for a whole year,"I was able to stay healthy and then guys get hurt and you're given an opportunity." It's clear he believes in his ability, and so does his team.
Was Edelman a must keep player for the Patriots? How far can the Brady and Edelman partnership take the Patriots? With one of the top players off the market it looks likely that teams will have to turn to the 2014 NFL Draft if they're to find a top receiver.
