Marc Webb helmed the first two installments in The Amazing Spider-Man film series, but he said in a recent interview that he does not intend to direct the already-announced fourth movie.

The Daily Beast asked if his deal to direct the third The Amazing Spider-Man movie would be his last Spidey film or if he would come back for the fourth one.

"I'd like to be involved as a consultant," he replied. "I've already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I've had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it'll be the time to find something else."

This could indicate that Webb's three films would function as a trilogy and the fourth movie would start a new chapter in conjunction with the Venom and Sinister Six movies. On that subject, the conversation turned to the expansion of this film universe and The Daily Beast asked if he would want Spider-Man to appear alongside The Avengers.

"We're building out a more complicated Spider-Man universe with characters that people haven't seen in other Spider-Man movies-The Sinister Six, Venom, and more," Webb replied. "We'd all love to overlap with other studios, but it's beyond my pay grade."

Finally, Webb commented "it felt wrong" to introduce Mary Jane Watson as a love interest for Peter Parker in TASM2 and said the following about Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn:

"I wanted him to be as smart as Peter Parker. James Franco is a very intelligent man, but his Harry Osborn was a little bit dopey. This Harry Osborn is incredibly sharp. Harry and Peter are bound by the loss of their fathers and their abandonment issues. In Raimi's film, Harry is trying to protect Peter from getting bullied or whatever, and in this one, they're more like brothers."

With regard to Harry's transformation into the Green Goblin, the director said, "Yeah, there will be some 'creature of the night' popping up."
