Pharrell Williams will spend another "Happy" week on the charts. For the fourth week in a row, the prolific musician's peppy Despicable Me 2/G I R L single has topped the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, further down in the top 10, a highly viral video has helped alt-rockers SOKO burst onto the scene.
According to Billboard, the reign of "Happy" is largely thanks to its domination on radio stations and in digital sales. Once again, Pharrell's hit is the most-played song across all radio formats and the single sold another 364,000 downloads this week.
Beneath the epic "Happy," Nos. 2 through 6 hold steady on the Hot 100 this week, with Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" holding at No. 2 for a fourth week, followed closely by John Legend's "All Of Me," Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," Bastille's "Pompeii" and Lorde's "Team."
Nos. 7 and 8 on the chart just swapped places, making it seem like a relatively dull chart week. OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" rose to No. 7, while Beyoncé and Jay Z's "Drunk In Love" dropped down to the eighth spot.
The final two spots of the top 10 are where things get particularly interesting. Thanks to the super-viral video "First Kiss," which features SOKO's "We Might Be Dead By Tomorrow," that song launched to No. 9 on the Hot 100 this week.
The rise of "We Might Be Dead" is largely thanks to the YouTube video, as the song tops the streaming chart with 11.5 million views in the United States (99 percent of which come from YouTube).
The clip "First Kiss," which went super viral after being released on March 10, apparently showed two strangers kissing for the first time. However, it was later revealed to be an advertisement collaboration between SOKO and Wren (a clothing company) instead of an organic art piece. Regardless, in nine days, the black-and-white clip has garnered 63.7 million views worldwide.
"We Might Be Dead" first debuted in 2012.
The top 10 is rounded out by a new entry to the top portion of the chart. Aloe Blacc's "The Man" rose two spots to No. 10.
