Manchester United knew they faced a tall order if they were to knock Olympiakos out at Old Trafford. The United of the Sir Alex Ferguson wouldn't of been bet against coming back from the 2 goal deficit they had to overturn, but many believed David Moyes' men didn't have the ability to change things around. They did just that, and in fine fashion, too. United have had a horrible season, by their standards, but they have a Champions League last eight encounter to look forward to, keeping their season alive after all.
Robin Van Persie was the star of the show last season, but this season he's failed to be as consistent, however his performance tonight was inspirational, as he scored a hat-trick which gave United what they needed to overturn the 2-0 first leg scoreline. Although Van Persie raised his game, the entire team looked out to prove a point, with David De Gea earning plaudits, too. The young, Spanish goalkeeper made four or five match-saving saves, keeping his team in line for their heroic comeback.
Van Persie fired a penalty, a free kick and a close range tap in, to complete his hat-trick. He has been labelled as lethargic this season, but he was anything but that in his man of the match performance.
Their performance is up there with the best of their season, and it's relieved the pressure on David Moyes, who's future has been considered risky in recent weeks. United are without a doubt the least favoured to win the Champions League final, but never say never. Lifting the trophy come May would certainly make people forget their horrid season.
