Imagine a division in the police force that specializes in crimes committed by rogue superheroes and supervillains. Powers, from Image /Icon Comics, now joins The Walking Dead and Arrow as the latest comic book title getting its own TV series.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the Sony-owned gaming console, PlayStation, has picked up the rights to the superhero/buddy-cop comic, Powers. The first season will most likely be an order of 10 episodes.

Written by Brian Michael Bendis and drawn by Michael Avon Oeming, Powers revolves around two detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, assigned to the Powers division. Walker and Pilgrim investigate crimes that may have been committed by superhumans and criminals with special abilities. In the first story arc, the detectives must solve the murder of the superheroine, Retro Girl. Just as creator Robert Kirkman executive produces his own comic book adaptation, Bendis will serve as showrunner of the TV series.

Circle of Confusion, which produces AMC'sThe Walking Dead, will executive produce alongside Bendis and Oeming. With the entire project being cast, Michael Dinner (Justified) jumps on board as director of the pilot. Novelist Charlie Huston (Skinner) will write and serve as showrunner alongside Bendis.

PlayStation now joins Netflix (House of Cards) and Amazon (The After) as they produce original programming for audiences. Let's see if PlayStation is able to stand on its own with their adaptation of Powers.
