Arsene Wenger's Arsenal had looked capable of winning the Premier League until their recent blip, and they had to beat Chelsea to keep their hopes alive. With Wenger celebrating one thousand games in charge of Arsenal many were expecting a huge performance from his side, but they failed to put in an average one, let alone an inspiring one, losing 6-0 in the process.
Everything that could go wrong for Arsene did. Seven minutes in it was clear it was not going to be their day, as goals from Samuel Eto'o and Andre Schurrle ensured Chelsea had a 2-0 advantage after seven minutes. Soon after a Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handball gave Chelsea a penalty, which Eden Hazard converted. The young winger should of been sent off, but the referee mistook his fellow player Kieran Gibbs for Alex, sending off the wrong man in the process.
Jose Mourinho and Arsene had a war of words earlier in the season, and it appears Jose has had the last laugh as he has all but eliminated Arsenal from the title race, ruined Arsene's big day and had his biggest Premier League victory as Chelsea manager. All in all it was Jose's day, not Arsene's. This poor performance will encourage the critics to resurface, as they had previously stated Arsenal's squad were lacking depth and didn't have the character to win the big games.
Arsenal will turn their attention to the FA Cup, whilst Chelsea will look to grab a dynamic duo, of both the Premier League and the Uefa Champions League.
