Doctor Who scriptwriter and occasional actor Mark Gatiss was recently asked about the possibility of more Time Lords showing up in the show's future. His answer may surprise you.

"Every time you go back to Gallifrey, it starts to make the Time Lords a bit too domesticated," he explained to fans during a BBC Worldwide event in Brazil. "I know that's why Russell T Davies came up with the whole idea of the Doctor being the last one because eventually if you see them so often they become a bit like a bunch of MPs, whereas if you talk about them as this amazing, powerful force, they're much more exciting."

Meanwhile, the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi, has been garnering plenty of praise in anticipation of his debut episodes.

First, Doctor Who head writer Steven Moffat explained one special aspect of Capaldi that makes him so intrigueing as the character.

"Scottishness. I think that's the main thing," Moffat said. "I mean watching him, and I just watched episode two actually, you don't go around thinking this is an older bloke as the Doctor, particularly. You just think my God, he's Scottish. And doomed dialogue doesn't half sound great in Scottish. You say the world's about to end in a Scottish accent, and you really believe it."

Maybe the best praise he received is from the Eighth Doctor Paul McGann.

"I think he's a brilliant choice," he said. "I honestly think, knowing Peter as I do, that he could well turn out to be the best of the lot. I really do."
