A beloved cartoon from the late '90s makes it ways back to the spotlight, thanks to Cartoon Network Enterprises and IDW Publishing. Dexter's Laboratory is back in comic book form, along with Dexter, Dee Dee, and their pet superhero monkey named Monkey.
Created by Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack), the cartoon series follows Dexter, the boy genius, as he tries to keep his bumbling sister, Dee Dee, away from his secret laboratory. Somehow able to sneak her way through the lab's hi-tech security system, Dee Dee manages to destroy Dexter's inventions. Writer Derek Fridolfs (Batman: Lil Gotham) and artist Ryan Jampole (Mega Man) pick up the show's hilarious antics between the young genius savant and his dim-witted sister.
IDW editor Sarah Gaydos reminiscences, "Dexter, Dee Dee, and their unending battles always cracked me up, so I'm really happy to help bring them back to comics! Working with Fridolfs again is super fun, and Jampole really brings the energy and humor we all remember from the animated series."
Fridolfs explains his love for the cartoon and its boy scientist. "As someone who grew up with an older sister I fought with, I feel a certain kinship to Dexter. I'm still working on the boy genius part. I've always enjoyed the clever stories and look forward to helping Dexter achieve success, even despite himself. This is gonna be a blast!"
The first issue of Dexter's Laboratory hits stores this April. Check out Dexter's latest gadgets before Dee Dee shows up dancing and accidentally breaks them.
