Alyson Hannigan probably won't be in 'How I Met Your Mother' spinoff

The How I Met Your Mother spinoff entitled How I Met Your Dad is about a new group of friends who seemingly have no connection to Ted Mosby and his group of companions, but that hasn't stopped fans from hoping that Ted, Barney, Robin, Marshall or Lily would make an appearance on the new show.

Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lily, spoke to IGN at PaleyFest 2014 and revealed that she knows nothing about the spinoff except for what she hears from media reports. After the interviewer joked that the original cast could just walk by in the background of a shot as a cameo, Hannigan said that co-creator Carter Bays wants to keep the original cast out of the picture for How I Met Your Dad.

In other spinoff news, actress Tiya Sircar has joined the show as her replacement just days after Smash actress Krysta Rodriguez departed How I Met Your Dad.

Sircar will play Juliet, best friend to main character Sally (Greta Gerwig) on the CBS pilot. She just finished an arc on CBS' The Crazy Ones as Sarah Michelle Gellar's assistant and Hamish Linklater's love interest. She also had a leading role in The Internship alongside Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson last year and also did an arc on Lifetime's The Witches of East End. Vircar also stars in Disney's new animated series Star Wars Rebels.
