Katie Holmes Leaves Tom Cruise Alone on his 50th Birthday

Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise celebrated his golden year with a bruised heart after her wife of five years Katie Holmes filed for divorce last week.

Despite being Hollywood's top earner, Tom Cruise spent his birthday in Iceland away from his beloved family filming his latest project. But he has very little to celebrate this year. Apparently, days after his wife tried to end their marriage, questions were thrown at him like rocks about the role of his Scientology faith in the divorce.

Cruise's spokesman said that Cruise is deeply saddened by the imminent divorce and is now focusing on his three children.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's love story started well. The actor famously jumped up and down on Oprah Winfrey's show confessing his love for the actress after diligently dating and courting the "Dawson's Creek" sweetheart. This is followed by a romantic proposal under the Eiffel Tower.

However, the fairytale turned into a nightmare and this will be Cruise's third divorce following his failed marriages with US actress Mimi Rogers from 1987-1990 and Australian Nicole Kidman from 1990-2001. He also had a three-year relationship with Spanish star Penelope Cruz.

He will face a dirty court battle seeking a joint custody for his six-year-old daughter Suri after reports that Katie wants a sole custody of their child came out because of the fear that Cruise would draw the child deeper into Scientology.

However, a lawyer for Church of Scientology denied the reports that it sent a surveillance team to monitor Holmes' activities.

Reports cited that Cruise and Holmes had a pre-nuptial agreement. Katie filed divorce in New York where she might face residential status problems. However, Cruise's lawyer Bret Fields said that the actor will file a rival divorce case in another state - probably in California where the couple hold their residence.

"We are letting 'the other side' play the media until they wear everyone out and then we'll have something to say. Tactically we can't say where Tom will file a divorce case and if he'll be seeking joint custody of Suri," he told BBC radio.
