Having just surpassed the $1 billion, 'Frozen' now becomes the top animated film of all time. The film has become a breakout hit for Disney and has cast a spell on moviegoers from all around the globe.
Since its release during Thanksgiving weekend, 'Frozen' has earned a domestic box office gross of $398.4 million and $674 million internationally, totaling $1.072 billon worldwide. It now sits at the number 10 spot on the worldwide highest grossing films chart where it wedges out both 'Toy Story 3' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'.
When Queen Elsa sets off an eternal winter before fleeing from her hometown of Arendelle, it's up to her sister, Princess Anna, to rescue her and unfreeze Arendelle. Anna teams up with a group of sidekicks, who are worthy of their own spinoff, to find Elsa and thaw the kingdom before it's too late.
'Frozen' stays true to the musical formula that Disney has been successful with in the past, but adds a unique quirkiness that makes it stand out amongst it's predecessors - making it not your typical Disney princess movie.
This announcement adds to the already impressive resume of the film. With two Academy Award wins, a Golden Globe win, over 1.6 million copies of the soundtrack sold, and seven non-consecutive weeks at number 1 on the Billboard charts, 'Frozen' has been the hottest thing to come out of Disney in a while.
With a possible Broadway musical adaptation and new Disneyworld rides and attractions, the future of this movie doesn't look stormy at all but rather clear and bright.
