Over the past two seasons both Manchester United and Bayern Munich couldn't of been any different. Both teams finished the 2012/13 season with glory, and both welcomed new managers to the club, but that's where their similarities end. United have been enduring a torrid season, whilst Munich have enjoyed a rampant spell of success, beating everyone that comes their way. Now United have one way to save their season, and that's by beating Munich and going on to win the UEFA Champions League.

David Moyes' men have failed on every front, but they know that beating Munich would help them to overcome their previous disappointment. Easy, right? Not so. United have to stop Munich's top talents such as Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery and Toni Kroos, who United are believed to be interested in buying in the summer.

If United had a fully fit and firing pairing of Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie they would have the tiniest shred of hope. With Van Persie out, and Juan Mata ineligible, United's impossible talk will fall firmly on to the shoulders of England's star striker Wayne Rooney.

United goalkeeper David De Gea is the one to watch, as the Spanish youngster is likely to have one of the busiest nights of his career. If De Gea is in form, then a United win would not be impossible. This will be a big test for the shot-stopper to prove himself, and if he does, United will hold on to their small hopes for next weeks second leg

Can United reach the standard set by Munich or will it be yet another British scalp after eliminating Arsenal?
