Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy may be calling it quits with Nickelodeon. The future of their current show 'Sam & Cat' is currently very unclear. Both girls have been with Nickelodeon for some time now, Grande starred on 'Victorious' for four year and McCurdy starred on 'iCarly' for seven years before signing on to 'Sam & Cat' a crossover/spinoff to both shows.
These rumors come on top of news that there has been a lot of discord behind the scenes. Rumors of a feud between the two leading ladies hit an all-time high this past weekend when Jennette McCurdy was a no show at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Both starlets were nominated in the favorite TV actress category which Grande ending up winning. McCurdy also just recently unfollowed Grande on social media platforms, which further escalates the rumors of a rift between the two. However, sources close to both actresses say they are getting along just fine. Drama between the two is not the only thing that could put the show out of production; McCurdy is also claiming unfair treatment by Nickelodeon employees after nude photos of her were released early this year.
McCurdy released the following statement on twitter, explaining her absent from the award show and stated it had nothing to do with the racy photos being leak but rather her unfair treatment by Nickelodeon.
"I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me. I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing."
She later goes on to dismiss any rumors of a feud between her and Grande saying that, "I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first."
'Sam & Cat,' which has proved to be a hit for Nickelodeon and creator Dan Schneider, quickly doubled its initial order of 20 episode to 40 after only 5 episodes of the series had aired. The series has also proved to be a hit in the ratings; its hour-long episode this past January became the highest-rated broadcast for Nickelodeon in two years for kids between the ages of 6-11. These ratings for the series would make anyone think it would be a no brainer when it comes to renewal.
When asked to address if season two of the show was moving forward, Nickelodeon said in a statement, "We are wrapping up what was an unusually long production cycle of Sam & Cat, and everyone is understandably tired. We are going into our production hiatus next week which will give everyone on the show a much needed rest."
It is still unclear whether or not that means a second season is in the future for 'Sam & Cat' fans, however the network seems to be taking preemptive measures, in case the show is cancelled they have already picked up three new comedies.
