Manchester United knew they'd have to perform well if they were to get a positive result against the defending Champions League holders, Bayern Munich, and they did exactly that, finishing with a 1-1 draw. They arguably could've won the tie, but now they know they have a slight chance of progressing when they visit Bayern in Germany for their final encounter next week. Can United grab the victory in Munich, or will they fall heroically short?

Danny Welbeck was the man of the moment as he scored a goal that was disallowed for a foul in the build up, and he then had a one-on-one chance with the Munich goalkeeper, but his cocky finish failed to hit the back of the net, and could prove costly.

In the second half captain Nemanja Vidic found himself in space and headed home, giving United a 1-0 advantage, but soon after a Bastian Schweinsteiger half-volley levelled the tie. Arjen Robben was the key man for Bayern, but he proved wasteful, and that could come back to haunt the champions.

United pressed for a winner, but Bastian brought down Wayne Rooney and earned himself a second yellow card, meaning he was sent off and will miss the return leg at the Allianz Arena next Wednesday.

United will know the toughest part of the battle remains, but most importantly they've proven they can be efficient against the champions, and that confidence could help them in their next game against one another. Can United progress? Wouldn't it be ironic if United found a way to win the Uefa Champions League and save their season?
