The first trailer for the Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles debuted this week, introducing us to the new live-action take on the classic characters. Unfortunately, there was a negative reaction to the appearance of our favorite shelled heroes. People all over the Internet complained, but one smart fan decided to give the new Turtles a facelift with digital plastic surgery for the sake of nostalgia.

Posted on Reddit, these updated pictures show just how these new Turtles would look if Bay and company stuck to the original character design made popular by early comic books and cartoons. Check out the alterations right here:

What do you think of these changes? Do you like the fan-produced versions of the Turtles or are you willing to accept the film's updated looks? Let us know in the comments section below!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and opens August 8, 2014. Megan Fox stars alongside Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Alan Ritchson, Danny Woodburn, William Fichtner, Will Arnett, Whoopi Goldberg.

Here's the official synopsis for this new reboot:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder's diabolical plan.
