There have been rumors before about a sequel to a particular '80s movie. Now, filmmaker Richard Donner (the Lethal Weapon movies) has confirmed what many nostalgic fans wanted to hear. The Goonies sequel will definitely be his next project.
In the TMZ video, the cameraman was speaking to Donner about the state of the movie industry's dependence on comic books. With the current state of the Amazing Spider-man reboot and Captain America:The Winter Solider opening in theaters, Donner still believes in the art of making a comic book movie. Donner should know because he directed the original Superman movie starring Christopher Reeves.
The cameraman then asks the filmmaker if he intends to make another comic book, Donner responds, "If Goonies is a comic book movie, then yes."
Donner confirms he is trying to make a sequel to The Goonies and that he wants the original cast to return as well.

The Goonies is a beloved '80s gem directed by Donner, written by Chris Columbus (Happy Potter and the Philosopher's Stone), and executive produced by Steven Spielberg (Raiders of the Lost Ark). The film follows a band of neighborhood kids seeking out adventure from a long lost treasure map. They are in a race against the Fratellis clan, who also want the gold.
The film starred Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), and Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope) at the early stages of their career.

It would be nice to have the old cast reunite, but The Goonies worked because of the trifecta of director Richard Donner, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and executive producer Steven Spielberg. Let's see if lightning can strike twice with the supposed sequel.
