Liverpool fans spent the majority of the game chanting "We're going to win the league. We are Liverpool. We shall not be moved." It seems that they might be right. Liverpool visited West Ham, which provided them with a tough task to overcome if they were to remain the Premier League leaders, but despite a stuttering performance, they held on and won 2-1, making it look like they indeed shall not move, much to the despair of Manchester City and Chelsea.
It's old territory for Liverpool, who dominated the English leagues for years before Sir Alex Ferguson joined Manchester United, but ironically in his first year of retirement, they've become a force to be reckoned with once again. West Ham did equalize, scoring through Andy Carroll, but they were able to take the lead once again, and they were determined to keep it that time.
Liverpool weren't at their fluid best, and it took two penalties from Steven Gerrard for them to get the win. Gerrard, with his double, passed Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish in their all-time goalscorers list.
If Liverpool can win their five remaining matches then they will win the Premier League champions. However, they have to defeat Manchester City next Sunday in the process. It would seem there's no easy route for Liverpool after all.
Can Liverpool win the Premier League, and would this be one of the biggest shocks of all-time in English football? We will be a bit closer to finding out when they take on title rivals Man City next Sunday.
