'Game of Thrones' Returns to Massive Ratings and Crashes HBO Go In the Process

Game of Thrones crashed records last night, literally. The season four opener of the hit HBO TV series was watched by more than 6 million viewers, adding 1.6 million viewers to the season three premiere and 0.6 million viewers to the finale of season three last year.  When replays of the episode were factored in 8.2 million viewers watched the first episode last night titled "Two Swords."

Last night's episode is the most watched episode for the cable provider since 2007 when The Sopranos was still on the air. The show has become a breakout hit for HBO and has steadily increased upon the 2.2 million viewers that watched the first episode of season one.

And when we say it crashed records we literally mean it. The HBO Go App, which allows subscribers of the channel to live stream shows, crashed last night during the season four premiere. The demand was so high for last night's episode that the app couldn't keep up.

HBO took to twitter to apologize for the inconvenience throwing in some Game of Thrones humor as well. They tweeted, "Looks like there's trouble in the realm. Apologies for the inconvenience." In another tweet they said, "Having trouble accessing @HBO GO? Send a raven. @GameOfThrones will be available soon on HBO On Demand with some cable providers."

The problem was fixed three hours after the initial problems were noticed. HBO Go has been noticing a few crashes recently having crashed during the True Detective season finale last month.

It looks like it'll be another record breaking year for our favorite gang of characters from Westeros.
