The Amazing Spider-Man 2 moves up U.K. premiere date

Fans in the U.S. must wait until May 2 to see The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but most international fans will have already seen the film by that pint. Sony Pictures U.K. announced Monday that the U.K. will be the first nation to receive the film, as it will premiere on April 16.

The film was originally scheduled for a U.K. release on April 18, but the April 16 date is more than a full two weeks ahead of the U.S. premiere. So if you want to be surprised when you see the movie, then avoid Internet articles about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 after April 16 because they are sure to be packed with spoilers.

In other Spidey news, Shailene Woodley had filmed some scenes as Mary Jane Watson for Marc Webb's sequel, but the director cut those scenes from the movie purportedly to make the story more concise and have a better pace. Webb has said Mary Jane would return in a future movie, presumably The Amazing Spider-Man 3. But Woodley may not step back into the role.

The actress has said before that her commitment to the Divergent film series could hamper her ability to return for The Amazing Spider-Man movies. Woodley recently spoke to Total Film and revealed that she filmed three scenes during three days for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and that it was nothing too "intense." Total Film then asks directly if she would return to The Amazing Spider-Man film series:

"I have no idea," she said, "and I don't know that I'd even want to do two franchises at this point. Having been through this..."

Her Divergent co-star Theo James interjects at that point.
