Brandon Weeden was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with a first-round pick in 2012, but a little less than two years later he's on a new team, and he's seemingly ready to blame his horrific first two years in the NFL on his former team. The Browns parted way with Weeden, releasing him, but he soon found a new home on the Dallas Cowboys' roster, where he will back up Tony Romo and Kyle Orton.
Whilst the Cleveland Browns are far from the perfect organization, it appears Weeden is prepared to shift the blame entirely on anyone but himself. He claims the Browns' problems on and off the field caused him to put too much pressure on himself, but arguably, anybody who enters the league in their late twenties is going to feel justified pressure to develop and compete with players who are already veterans at that age, so perhaps it's just as much his fault.
Weeden explained his frustrations, saying "It wasn't an ideal situation. The regime that drafted me was out a year after I got there. You never know the plans the group coming in has. I think, as a player, as much as you try not to do too much, try not to put too much pressure on yourself to perform and show you can be the guy for the long haul, sometimes you get caught up in it. You try to do much as a player. That's one thing if I could change about myself, I wouldn't try to do too much every Sunday. Just let the game kinda come to you and be more patient."
Weeden should be happier now, as it's unlikely he will be under the 'pressure' the Browns inflicted on him. He shouldn't take the field if everything goes to plan, with Tony Romo their number one quarterback, and Kyle Orton a better back up. Perhaps Weeden will enjoy the pressure-free role, but time is ticking at an incredible pace for the 30-year-old, and his career could be gone before he knows it.
