A different kind of reading experience is about to take place on the Kindle. The spread of comic books moves up ahead digitally as Amazon.com has reached an agreement to purchase ComiXology.
ComiXology has dedicated itself into making the buying of comic books a bit easier and reading them a lot more fun. Amazon offers customers a chance to find and discover anything they want online, at the lowest prices. It makes sense to see these two companies working together.
David Steinberger, co-founder and CEO of ComiXology, explains what the merger means, "ComiXology's mission is to spread the love of comics and graphic novels in all forms. There is no better home for ComiXology than Amazon to see this vision through. Working together, we look to accelerate a new age for comic books and graphic novels."
David Naggar, Amazon Vice President of Content Acquisition and Independent Publishing, discusses what makes the two companies compatible, "Amazon and ComiXology share a passion for reinventing reading in a digital world. We've long admired the passion ComiXology brings to changing the way we buy and read comics and graphic novels. We look forward to investing in the business, growing the team, and together, bringing comics and graphic novels to even more readers."
On the official ComiXology website, Steinberger further addresses the significance of the acquisition,"ComiXology will retain its identity as an Amazon subsidiary and we're not anywhere near done 'taking comics further.' We are confident that - with Amazon by our side, who shares our desire for innovation and a relentless focus on customers - we've only just begun."
When ComiXology started seven years ago, the company aimed to connect readers with comic books through a digital platform. With ComiXology's broad library and Amazon's Kindle, a possible reinvention of the reading experience is waiting for customers. There will be changes but ComiXology's headquarters will still remain in New York.
