Raheem Sterling seemed like a troubled child not so long ago, and one who would quickly throw his career away, however hard work, determination and a complete personality change have seen his maturity rapidly improve, and now Sterling looks set to be one of the key players for both Liverpool and England for many years to come. Just how good can he be, and how has he made this transition so quickly?
Raheem was signed from Queens Park Rangers in a deal believed to be worth around $1,000,000, which already appears to be money well spent. Sterling can play in a variety of positions, and his blistering pace makes him a frightening proposition for defenders to deal with. The youngster has added goals and assists to his game, making him potentially the complete player.
The winger is 5ft 7in, but his height seems to be more of a help than a hindrance, but that doesn't mean he can't play in a physical manner. He explained "I've always played against guys who are bigger than me,' he says of his early days with the club. 'I was mocked by the crowd at a youth game in Germany once for my height. It's always happened, I've always played above my age group, with bigger guys, but I love the challenge. With the physicality, I had to learn new tricks, learn to outsmart my opponent. It was good for me trying to outplay the older, bigger guys. It was scary at first but after a while I got used to it and getting kicked was just natural."
Although Raheem has had his off-field problems, it appears his days as a troubled teen are over, and he's ready to be a man, living up to his huge potential. Within the next few months he could increase his reputation by winning the Premier League for Liverpool, and making an impact at the World Cup with England.
