1.) The first basic note to all: Champagne comes from Champagne. It's a specific wine produced from a specific region of France.
2.) Champagne is a wine!
3.) Seven different grapes can be used to make Champagne, however there are three that are mostly used. The most famous is Pinot Nior, but Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay come close.
4.) To avoid discoloring the ideal white Champagne color, grapes are delicately pressed to avoid the laceration of the skins which would contaminate the pure hue.
5.) The fermentation process aims to soften the acidity of the Champagne.
6.) Inside the bottle before the bottling process goes underway, a mixture of yeast and sugar to enable to bubbling sensation that Champagne is known for.
7.) Bottles have to be set for a minimum of five weeks for the yeast to dissolve into the wine.
8.) Vintages are a delicate concept because Champagnes distinct, expected flavor. One year could be outstanding and another year could be awful.
9.) Champagne, like any other wine, goes through phases and can reach an expiration date. This goes especially for non-vintage bottles!
10.) Using a white wine glass to serve Champagne, as it falls under the white wine category, allows for the wine to blend and redevelop its flavors while the inward curve of the glass brings out the aromas through your nose and onto your pallet.
