BET will be adding a new talk show to its lineup.
The Keke Palmer Project, which will debut in July will be hosted by actress/singer Keke Palmer and will focus on topics such as sex, pop culture, fashion, celebrity interviews, undercover reporting, and social issues. The show has been picked up for an initial four week run at the conclusion of which, the Viacom owned network, will decide if it wants to pick the show up for additional episodes.
The show will join syndicated talk shows on the network including The Wendy Williams Show and The Queen Latifah Show, as well as the original BET talk show The Real, debuting this fall.
Palmer is an avid social media user, and the talk show seemed like a natural progression for her. In a statement on Monday that announced this news, Palmers said "I like to read quotes that touch on how I am feeling. If I am dealing with confusion, I will read quotes about clarity and peace of mind. I starting posting these quotes on my Twitter page, and fans responded so positively. I realized that many of them were dealing with similar issues, and the quotes helped to open up a genuine dialogue between us."
With the news of the upcoming show, Palmer becomes the youngest talk show host in history. BET is aiming the program at a younger audience mostly trying to target millennials.
Keke Palmer who rose to stardom in the critically acclaimed Akeelah and the Bee also starred in Nickelodeons show True Jackson-VP. Next up for the actress include roles in Animals, Brotherly Love, Imperials Dreams, and a recurring role on HBO's Masters of Sex.
