Manchester United have had a horrid season, and for a while it's seemed likely that they would spend near $250 million dollars on new players this summer. It was at first believed that David Moyes would be given these funds, but yesterday he was fired after less than a season in charge, however, it seems like their targets have remained the same. Reports suggest that they are close to sealing a $50 million dollar deal for Southampton's star left back.

With Patrice Evra on his way out, United need a left back. Shaw, 18, is seen as the perfect man for the job as he's capable both offensively and defensively, meaning United would have a new strong outlet on the left side of the field. Shaw has been so impressive that he's now played for England, he looks set to go to the World Cup and he's wanted by many major teams.

It's believed that United will pay over $150,000 a week in wages for the defender, which has helped them beat rivals Chelsea for his signature. Chelsea cannot offer first-team football for Shaw, nor are they willing to meet the wages United have offered. With Shaw supporting Chelsea many believed they'd be in pole position to sign him, but it appears United have most definitely moved a step closer to signing him.

Is Shaw a good signing for United, and who will follow the 18-year-old star in joining United? Will he star for England at the World Cup, or is it one tournament too soon?
