When the LA Angels gave first baseman Albert Pujols a huge contract many said it'd be a waste of money. So far this season he's proving he still has what it takes to be up there with the best of them. In their 7-2 victory over the Washington Nationals on Tuesday he hit his 499th and 500th homers, driving in five runs, and in the process he joined the 500-HR club. The three-time NL MVP is now the 26th player in MLB history to reach the 500-HR club.

Pujols remained humble afterwards, saying "It tastes better with a win," He continued "I knew this year, it was going to happen, whether it was tonight, tomorrow, two months from now. So my goal was just to prepare myself every day to try to help this organization win." Albert is also the third youngest to get to the 500-HR club at the age of 34, with only Alex Rodriguez and Jimmie Foxx (both 32) getting there at an earlier age than him.

Did Pujols realize the significance of his accomplishment? Apparently so, he explained "To have more than 19,000 players who wore a big league uniform and to have only 26 players to do this, it's pretty special," He continued to say "I was pretty emotional running the bases," The fans clapped him and gave him a standing ovation, knowing they were seeing a once in a lifetime achievement.

Tom Sherrill was the lucky (Angels) fans who caught his 500th-home-run ball, but he gave it back to Albert after the game. He explained "It went so far up that I just turned around and hauled [my butt] up the stairs and it worked out," He continued "There was another guy there named Chris, he was running down the stairs. We kinda squared each other up. It bounced off of him and into my hands."

It seems Albert Pujols isn't done making history and if he continues to take care of himself, there's many more HR to add to his 500th. Will his good form help them make the playoffs at long last?
