Netflix is giving four different Marvel Comics superheroes their own series, which will eventually lead to one epic superhero team miniseries. The upcoming Daredevil series on Netflix will have ties to Marvel's Cinematic Universe, but there are a few surprises in store for binge-watchers.
While speaking to filmmaker Kevin Smith (Comic Book Men) on Fatman on Batman, (as heard by ComicBook.com) Marvel Entertainment's Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada teased audiences what they should expect from the Daredevil series. Quesada explained how the Netflix series are tied together, "There will be some interconnectivity, much like the movies. They will exist within the cinematic universe again, so this is all the same world as S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers."
Remember how the aftermath of Captain America: The Winter Solider continued in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? In the Netflix series, Daredevil could have knowledge of the alien attack on New York in the Avengers movie. What will eventually happen though is that the Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke cage series will eventually lead to Defenders, a superhero team-for-hire.
Quesada discussed how the Daredevil series wouldn't be your typical superhero TV show, "Although these are superhero stories, this is different now. This is the street level...this is the street-level, noir side of the Marvel Universe. Something that you haven't really, really seen in any of our Marvel movies. And probably more ground level, than I think you've seen. This is not like us doing Batman, Dark Knight or any of that stuff. This is very Marvel doing street-level superheroes."
This could possibly hint that Daredevil will deal with problems set within his setting, Hell's Kitchen. For example, in the Child's Play story arc, Matt Murdock, the lawyer, had to prove a naive street thug was innocent through the court system while Daredevil, the vigilante, dismantled an illegal gun trade within Hell's Kitchen. Could the Daredevil series be mostly urban crime tales and law/courtroom dramas?
Just like in the comics, the Daredevil series on Netflix will be making use of its New York setting in a big way. Expected in 2015, get ready for heavy courtroom dramas/street-level action done the Marvel way.
