Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Update: Royal Couple Set to Wed This Week

Reports are claiming that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are planning to wed this week in Los Angeles.

TMZ reports that the couple who is planning to get married in France on May 24 will have a much more low key ceremony in the United States later this week. The couple tries to keep things on the down low by requesting a "confidential" marriage license for their courthouse ceremony. The wedding will sure to be followed by an over the top extravaganza in traditional Kardashian style.

So why the two different wedding dates?

A source tells TMZ that "Typically, the U.S. recognizes citizens getting married in France, but dealing with a foreign government and paperwork could be a nightmare. So just to make sure it's legal, Kim and Kanye will first be having a civil ceremony in Southern California."

The couple's lawyers urged them to have a ceremony in American just to avoid any legal trouble.

French law almost put a stop to the wedding after the couple had overlooked a law saying that one of them would have to reside in France for forty days prior to saying 'I do.' Kanye has owned an apartment in Paris for three years but since it is not his main home it will be up to the local mayor to decide if the wedding will be able to proceed.

The lavish affair next month will be smaller than what is expected. In an interview in February, Kim said she changed her mind about wanting a big wedding. "We're having a super, super small intimate wedding. As we go along, we're realizing we want it to be smaller and more intimate than people are imagining and thinking."

Kimye, as they're now known, got engaged in October following the birth of their daughter North West.
