Known for his roles in such classic films like Brazil, The Long Good Friday, Hook and Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Bob Hoskins was one of the most recognizable talents on stage and screen. Sadly, this week the 71-year-old actor died after losing a battle with pneumonia.
In a statement released with the announcement of his passing, Hoskins' family (his wife Linda and children Alex, Sarah, Rosa and Jack) said, "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Bob."
The statement continued: "Bob died peacefully at hospital last night surrounded by family, following a bout of pneumonia. We ask that you respect our privacy during this time and thank you for your messages of love and support."
Raised in London, England, Bob Hoskins starred in many British films where he usually played a tough guy with a soft center. His break out role came in 1988 when he dropped his cockney accent to play a touch detective in the critically acclaimed comedy Who Framed Roger Rabbit? From there, Hoskins quickly became a recognizable face and name in Hollywood.
In 1987, Bob's performance in Mona Lisa received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor. His final film was Snow White and the Huntsemen, in which he portrayed one of the seven dwarves. In 2012, the versatile actor retired from acting after announcing that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
With a heavy heart, we say goodbye to one of the best actors in recent history. Our condolences to Bob's family.
