After proving herself countless times in battle, the Mistress of the Elements eventually became the team leader of the mutant superhero group, the X-Men. Now Marvel Comics is giving X-Men's team leader her very own solo series, Storm, this upcoming July.

USA Today got the scoop that writer Greg Pak and Victor Ibanez will be the creative team behind the Storm Series. In the first issue, Storm finds herself away in Caribbean while an old enemy returns to hurt those she loves at the Jean Grey School. Who will pay the price when Storm isn't around to save the day?

Pak explains his interests with the character, ""I was a middle-class half-Korean boy growing up in Texas, not the orphaned daughter of an African-American photographer and an African princess growing up in the streets of Cairo. But Storm's difference resonated with me - just by existing, she represented the idea that anyone could be a superhero, even me."

From Pak's offical Twitter, check out Ibanez's sketches of Storm and Skottie Young's variant cover:

Pak teases what's coming ahead in the solo series, ""Storm fights for those who most need her, no matter what the cost. There's a ton of drama and story in exploring how she makes those decisions and what kind of trouble that will create for herself and everyone she loves."

Make sure to watch Storm in action, played by actress Halle Berry, in X-Men: Days of Future Past:

Storm #1 launches in stores sometime this July. Let's hope Storm still has her Mohawk in artist Victor Ibanez's character design.
