Port Vale are two levels below the Premier League, but after a solid first season at this level, they will be hoping to make a push to getting promoted to the second-tier of English football next season. Their manager Micky Adams, once a Premier League manager, has achieved wonders with limited resources, and through the help of their loan signing, Billy Knott, from Premier League side Sunderland, but what does the future hold for Vale, their coach and their young loanee?

Micky Adams told Mstarz "We wanted to finish the season in the right way." They certainly did getting an away 0-0 draw against playoff contenders Peterborough. When asked how important it was to avoid defeat he insisted "There's nothing worse for a professional footballer' than to lose the last game of the season and hate themselves for it for months. His team were labelled "relegation fodder", as Micky explained, but he led them to a very good finish, and now they will be looking to move on and aim for the Championship.

Port Vale had off-the-field problems this year as their captain, Doug Loft, was assaulted by his ex-colleague, Daniel Jones, who hit him for a mistimed training ground tackle. Jones, 27, has been sacked, whilst Loft had to recover from the injury, leaving room for others to impress.

Sunderland's Premier League prospect, Billy Knott, has spent time on loan at Vale, and with the loss of two key players, he has found his playing time increase. The England youth international is a free agent and could join Vale on a permanent, or a Championship club. He explained that their game against Peterborough was a "good game all round and good end to the season."

Knott showed his Premier League attitude, saying "Results are key and we had to dig in today, it was a good result in the end." When speaking on his future he said "I'll go away with my family and girlfriend and get a break from it" When he's back he explained he will "sit down with my agent and see what we've got on the table." When asked how far he could go, he replied saying "You can go to the highest club and be sitting on the bench. I feel I can play in the Championship."

Will Port Vale keep Micky Adams and Billy Knott, and if so how valuable will their Premier League experience be in getting the Vale to the Championship, a level they could've only dreamed of playing at not so long ago.
