Sir Alex Ferguson's son, Darren Ferguson, has led his Peterborough United to two promotions in two attempts when in League One, and with their playoff place confirmed, he's hoping to make it a hat-trick. His side played Port Vale in their final game of the season, and he rested his star players, including Britt Assombalonga, who was recently voted the 12th best player outside the Premier League. The game had an end of season feel and finished 0-0, with both sides happy with the point.
For Fergie's men, the next encounter will be at home to Leyton Orient in the playoff semi-final. In his post-match press conference he talked about their upcoming opponents, saying "Orient are a really good team. Their manager Russell Slade and his assistant Kevin Nugent have done a magnificent job there. They were the best opponents we have faced at London Road all season and undoubtedly deserved their win here, but we were just as impressive when we got a result at their place. But it doesn't really matter to me who we face as you are guaranteed two huge games regardless of the opposition."
Ferguson suggested he wasn't scared of any of the teams they could face, and stated that they have prepared equally for all them. He continued "I like the play-offs, I enjoy being involved in the team and we will make sure from Tuesday onwards that we work hard and prepare as well as we possibly can. I already had a team in mind for each eventuality whether it be Orient, Preston or Rotherham and the players know exactly what is required of them."
One player who impressed was 18 year-old prospect, Ricardo Santos, who arrived from the non-league this season. The talented teen played out of position at both right-back and as a striker, but was voted 'Man of the Match'. The teen spoke to the press afterwards, saying "I broke down in the last ten minutes, but I gave everything I've got. It was a great feeling to get 'Man of the Match',
With Peterborough hoping to get promoted, many are wondering can Darren Ferguson manage in the Championship once again, and will their humble defensive prospect, Santos, become the rock of their defensive four?
