'Divergent' star Mekhi Phifer files for Bankruptcy

You would think starring in a new film would be a nice payday for some, but not for this Divergent actor.

MStars has learned that former ER, and Soul Food star Mekhi Phifer is broke, and has filed for bankruptcy.

According to TMZ, the Max, whom he played in the new 2014 film Divergent filed for bankruptcy last month, claiming $67,000 in assets as his debt climbs to $1.3 million.

Phifer's legal documents revealed that the actor spends around $11,600 in monthly expenses and only earns around $7,500.

Phifer owes $1.2 million in back taxes, $50k in lawyer's bills and $4,500 in back child support.

The actor's assets include a leather bed, a 12-year-old Segway, and a large collection of firearms, (1 shotgun and 2 9mm pistols).
