Just last week the new comedy Walk of Shame starring Elizabeth Banks was released in theaters and Video on Demand services (VOD), but is now facing some legal trouble. This lawsuit against Banks and her producing partner and husband, Max Handelman, says they took the plot of screenplay from a pitch meeting held in 2007.

According to the lawsuit, "Banks and Handelman retained the Screenplay, and never returned any version of it."

The suit also stated: "The plot in both works follows a pretty blonde but prudent woman (a 'good girl') in her thirties living in a big city who goes through a break up with her boyfriend, commiserates with her best girlfriends (one of whom is sexual and foulmouthed), gets drunk, spends a 'one-nighter' with a younger man she just met who works as a busboy/bartender, wakes up the next morning at his place, and puts on her inappropriate outfit from the night before."

Banks and Handelman did not actually produce the film, which was apparently in the works before the actress was cast n the project. Lakeshore Productions was behind the project.

A spokesperson explained: "Lakeshore developed Walk of Shame independently, prior to casting Elizabeth Banks. We believe this claim is meritless."

This is all a bit confusing considering Banks' involvement in the film began after its inception, so we don't know how to take this lawsuit. Hopefully this legal trouble doesn't affect the actress too much.
