The How I Met Your Mother spinoff entitled How I Met Your Dad seems like a lock to join CBS' lineup in the fall, but there's some confusion about the show's actual status amid this week's pickups and renewals.
Rumors hold that CBS has ordered the spinoff to series, and many TV news sites are reporting through sources that it's more or less a done deal. But CBS has denied claims that it has officially given the series the green light, and the network states it has yet to make a decision.
Sally (Greta Gerwig) is the new Ted Mosby character for the spinoff. She is a colorful, messy and unpredictable character and the casting info describes her as a "female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life." She's on the verge of getting divorced from her current husband of one year, Gavin, when the show begins, and she'll turn to her group of friends for advice and support.
First on that list of friends is Juliet (Tiya Sircar), who sounds like the Barney of the group. She is a "sexy, flamboyant, energetic party-girl BFF." She runs her own successful fashion blog and is happy to know Sally is breaking up with Gavin, whom she finds boring.
Danny (Andrew Santino) is Sally's gay older brother and an overachieving brother with a Type A personality. The two have little in common but are very close. Sally moves in with Danny after the divorce, which could strain their relationship.
But Danny's husband, Todd (Drew Tarver), is warm and outgoing and one of Sally's best friends from college. He is thrilled to have Sally in their home.
Frank (Nick D'Agosto) is the head of IT for Juliet's blog and a hot nerd. He has true feelings for Sally but they are not returned, at least at the start of the show.
And then we have the Narrator, aka Future Sally (Meg Ryan), who is telling the story to her children.
