With Fox picking up Gotham, NBC jumps on the bandwagon and greenlights another DC Comics title, Constantine, for a series order. Will the Constantine TV series stick closely to the comics? Or will it be more like the self-titled flick starring Keanu Reeves?

In the DC Universe, John Constantine, also the lead in Hellbazer comics, is a British occult investigator known for his chain-smoking, deadpan one-liners, and brooding personality. Originally created by Alan Moore, Steve Bissette, and John Totleben, Constantine played a pivotal role in the Swamp Thing comics as the green monster's best friend. If you look at the early Swamp Thing comics, artists Bissette and Totleben wanted Constantine to resemble rock singer Sting.

According to DC Comics, the NBC series follows Constantine (played by Matt Ryan) is called out of retirement when demons target the daughter, Liv (Lucy Griffiths), of his oldest friend. Constantine must use his magic skills to protect Liv from the demons and angels. The cast includes Lost's Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford, who plays the role of Chas, Constantine's best and only living friend. Writer Daniel Cerone (Dexter) will serve as excutive producer alonside David S. Goyer (Man of Steel).

In an interview with IamRogue, Goyer mentions how the TV seriers would follow the comics, "[Constantine] will have his signature trench coat and skinny tie. I would say that the show clings more closely to the source material than the film did. Even though the film was interesting."
