Pioneering hip-hop group Run-D.M.C. is reuniting after 10 years, choosing Austin's Fun Fun Fun Fest to host their reunion in November.
The surviving members of the group, Rev. Run and Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels, will headline the Texas festival, which runs from Nov. 2 to Nov. 4.
Global Grind, the entertainment website owned by hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, brother of Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons, first reported the Run-D.M.C. reunion.
"After a decade of not working together, Run-D.M.C. is officially back," Global Grind reported. "This is a great day for hip-hop and we definitely can't wait to see My Adidas rocking this November!"
The Fun Fun Fun Fest was founded in 2006 in downtown Austin, Texas. The festival is promoting the Run-D.M.C. reunion with this image and a promotion video, which can be viewed below.
The Austin festival describes itself as "an independent genre based festival, known as one of the most relaxed, creative, and pioneering festivals in music today. Fun Fun Fun Fest is a fest that is custom booked for the most passionate underground and progressive musicians, comedians and fans around the world."
Rev. Run and D.M.C. retired in 2002, when the third member of the hip-hop group, Jason "Jam Master J" Mizell was shot and killed in a recording studio in their native Queens.
Run-D.M.C.'s ties to the New York City borough have been influential in their music, and the hip-hop group frequently mentions their neighborhood of Hollis, Queens in songs.
The group is credited with bringing hip-hop to the mainstream when they collaborated with rockers Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith to make a cover of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way," which was featured on Run-D.M.C.'s third album, "Raising Hell."
Run-D.M.C. fans and those planning to attend Fun Fun Fun Fest are psyched for the reunion, with "Run Dmc" and the hashtag #fundmc trending on Twitter.
"Aaawwwww yeeeaaaahhhhhh. Run DMC at @funfunfunfest. #fundmc," wrote Twitter user @ianmorales.
"What!?! Run-DMC at @funfunfunfest!! #fundmcm," exclaimed user @Wormosaurus.
Austin radio station 101X called #Fundmc the "hashtag of the day."
Run-D.M.C. is best known for songs "It's Tricky," "It's Like That," "My Adidas," "Christmas In Hollis," "Mary, Mary," "Run's House," and "King Of Rock."
