Manchester City storm to second Premier League title in two years as Liverpool fall short

Two years ago Sergio Aguero netted a stoppage time winner to lead Manchester City to their first Premier League title. Almost two years to the day City were crowned champions once again. City needed to avoid defeat against West Ham or hope Liverpool fell short at home to Newcastle. It always looked like a tall order for Man City to let their title lead slip, and they endured that was the case. 

Martin Skrtel scored an own goal, meaning Liverpool were 1-0 down at half time. Samir Nasri smashed the ball home for City. With both Man City and Newcastle winning at the break, only the mightiest of comebacks would be enough for Liverpool. In the second half City wasted no time, with Vincent Kompany netting the second goal soon after the game restarted. Ironic that the league's best defender scored the goal that took all of the pressure off of City.

City are worthy champions in the eyes of many, but perhaps they made harder work than necessary considering the strength of their squad and deep financial backing. City held on to grab the victory, and Liverpool come back to win, but it wasn't enough for the Reds. Liverpool have had an impressive season and weren't supposed to be a threat for the title, so they'll take pride in this, but no doubt their hurting after coming within touching distance of success.
