Robert Pattinson 'Twilight' hate bruises ego? Kristen Stewart's ex 'avoids' awkward Cannes Film Festival reunion, celebrates birthday!

Who knew that Robert Pattinson got a "bruised ego" from his infamous role as Edward Cullen in the popular "Twilight" film franchise?

The British heartthrob will attend the 2014 Cannes Film Festival later this month in support of his "indie" work. In a recent interview with the popular French magazine Premiere, R-Patz explains:

"I think I have more confidence in myself and these Cannes selections are helping a lot... After being dissed for years because of Twilight, my ego was a little bruised."

He continued:

"When you are in a blockbuster, you contribute to an ensemble without really knowing how. With the small films I do now - and it probably is because of their ambitious sides - I feeling like I'm creating something. It is way more palpable."

Pattinson's recent "indie" work includes the upcoming drama satire "Maps to the Stars" and crime/thriller "The Rover."

Coincidentally, Pattinson's ex-girlfriend Kristen Stewart will also attend this year's festival. Rumors initially suggested that the on-and-off again couple planned on renting a "private villa" together to help reignite their romance, but apparently that's untrue. Way too awkward!

In fact, the former lovebirds don't plan on seeing each other at all. An E! News insider reveals they definitely "won't be there at the same time."

K-Stew won't arrive until later, because she's still busy filming her new flick "American Ultra."
