Revenge Season 4 Spoilers: Could Emily's mother return?

Revenge aired its Season 3 finale on Sunday, and the numerous twists and turns in the deaths, arrests and shocking returns stunned fans in the season's final hour.

The return of Emily's father, David Clarke, particularly shocked fans, and his first act was to stab Conrad directly in the gut. Fans long thought the character was dead, but apparently he's just been waiting in the wings for his name to get cleared. But what's next for Emily and her family?

The "Spoiler Chat" column at E! Online reveals Emily's mother could return in Season 4:

"Meghan S.: I cannot get over Revenge's finale! David Clarke's return was insane! But will Emily's mother also return in season four?
Kara is still out there, so it's a definite possibility, showrunner Sunil Nayar hinted to us. 'She's definitely come up in conversations. Season four is going to be much more about the nature of Emily's family as opposed to the Grayson family than it's ever been before,' he spilled. 'She's someone we're talking about, but we haven't figured out the stories yet, but we love her and we love the character. You never know, she could pop up.'"

Nayar also spoke to TVLine recently and answered numerous questions about the Season 3 finale and what's next for Season 4. For example, why didn't Emily kill Victoria when she had the chance?

"That's sort of what Emily's always been about, the death by 1,000 cuts; human suffering is a much greater revenge than just the emptiness of death. Especially after what Victoria did, Emily wants this woman to live, but live miserably, as opposed to dying. As we go into Season 4, Victoria will not only feel a sense of anger and revenge in regards to what happened to Pascal, but she essentially created this young woman, so there's also a comeuppance. Everyone has to look at the world around them - Emily, Victoria, Daniel - and they all have to think, 'Well, we're complicit in the things that make us unhappy,' and that's something we want to look at in Season 4. That also led us to bringing David Clarke back, but in a way that you'd never expect."
