Supernatural fans might have reason to rejoice today. A few days ago the CW passed on picking up Supernatural: Bloodlines, causing us Winchester fans to shed a few tears.
Well it looks like Mark Pedowitz, president of the CW, is giving us some new hope. In an Upfront conference call earlier today he says he is remaining optimistic about a spinoff series.
"We believe there is a real brand in Supernatural," Pedowitz said. "We had six really good pilots this year and we felt that Supernatural just didn't get there."
The team behind Supernatural will go back to the drawing board this summer to talk about ways to branch out on their brand. Details on what the new series will focus on is yet to be heard. Pedowitz said "What it is and what it isn't yet is still up in the air."
The CW has been branding their network as a supernatural genre station, which includes vampire shows (Vampire Diaries, and The Originals), supernatural shows (Supernatural, and iZombie), and comic book shows (The Flash, and Arrow).
The genre seems to be paying off for the network. Pedowitz comments on the success that the CW has had in recent years.
"We had a very good year this year. We're a very different CW than we were a few years ago."
The new CW fall schedule shows some shakeups from past years, including moving The Originals to Monday and reserving fan favorites Hart of Dixie and Beauty and the Beast until midseason.
