Something is happening to Superman that is changing him into a frightening and vicious beast. DC Comics has brought back a major villain our superhero would definitely like to forget in writers Greg Pak, Scott Lodell, Charles Soule, and artist Ken Lashley's Superman: Doomed #1.

Comic book fans remember the name Doomsday from the epic bestseller, Death of Superman. Only known as Doomsday, the hulkish monster killed the Man of Steel in front of millions, including Lois Lane.Though the caped superhero came back to life, Doomsday was never far from his mind.

The biggest rematch in DC Comics history is about to take place in Superman: Doomed.  Not only does the menacing creature return, the super villain comes back with newfound abilities. Doomsday is now a virus, infecting Superman from within, transforming him into an unstoppable monster.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Soule explains this is not a retelling of Death of Superman and most importantly, something original, "The idea is to suggest that the events of Superman: Doomed" #1 have a very dramatic effect on Superman and it's not entirely positive. In some ways, it's the loss of his humanity. And the things that he does that keep him from exercising his powers to the extent that they can be exercised and I think that creates a very interesting dynamic. And it also creates a Superman that's a little scary and a little wild and it's been great to write and I hope it going to be very interesting to read."

Because Superman has been infected, the Kryptonian will slowly lose his humanity as mid-mannered Clark Kent. Wonder Woman and Batman may be able to stop their ally, but will they have to kill him? The nonstop action continues as the highly anticipated crossover takes place in Action Comics #31, Superman/Wonderman #8, and Batman/Superman #11.

Superman: Doomed #1 is out in stores now. Superman will never be the same after his long-awaited rematch with Doomsday.
