The CW Network released a first look and an extended trailer to their comic book series, The Flash. How close will the live-action TV series stick to the DC Comics series? Readers, let's take a look at what we have so far.
Barry Allen made his first appearance in Arrow. Just on that episode alone, there was enough fanfare to give the DC superhero his own TV show. Here are five reasons why viewers should be excited to see The Flash series:
1) In the TV, the Flash is a combination of Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen. Grant Gustin plays a younger version of Barry (who's thirty-something in the comics), has the comic relief of The Kid Flash (Wally) and the playful energy of Bart (Impulse), Barry's future grandson. Gustin seems to have a knack juggling the dramatic and comedic overtones of his character.
2) The Reverse Flash appears to be the big bad of the TV series. In the DC Universe, The Flash snaps the neck of Reverse Flash because he made him late to his own wedding. In the TV Show, Barry wants revenge against the yellow-costumed man who murdered his mother.
3) The speedster's comic book origin remains the same. Barry is working in his police laboratory while a lightning storm takes place outside in Central City. Lightning unexpectedly hits Barry, throwing him into a vat of chemicals. The origin works because it's short, simple, and straight to the point.
4) The Weather Wizard is making his appearance on the TV series. Thank goodness the TV creators got rid of his ridiculous green tights and went for black leather instead. The TV show won't be skimping on the special effects as each episode presents the origin stories of The Flash's superhuman enemies.
5) Actress Candice Patton plays fan-favorite Iris West. In the DC Universe, Iris becomes Barry's wife, always keeping his secret identity hidden from others, even when tortured by his enemies. In the TV series, Iris is a computer graphics artists, not a reporter like in the comics.
